HTTP 202 Accepted

The request was accepted but processing isn't complete.

What HTTP 202 Accepted means

202 Accepted means the request was accepted for processing, but the processing hasn't finished (and might not succeed). It's used for asynchronous work — the server took the job but the result isn't ready yet.

Which category is it?

202 is a 2xx code — Success. 2xx means the request was received, understood, and accepted — everything worked.

Example 202 response

POST /api/reports HTTP/1.1

HTTP/1.1 202 Accepted
Location: /api/jobs/77
Retry-After: 10

How to check a 202

  1. Look for a Location header or body field that tells you where to poll for the result, usually a job or status URL.
  2. Poll that URL until it reports completion or failure. Respect Retry-After if present.
  3. Do not assume success: 202 only means the work was queued.
